SEO ranking and revenue generating is 2 totally different things.

This.

IMO if doing a purely seo contest - you should choose a random keyword that has no results and not be allowed to use it anywhere in the domain or in the domain of any parasites ie. asdsadasgdfdf . That way you can't use aged sites or niche related networks etc and it becomes purely an seo contest with a clean slate.

There we go.

Straight up SEO contest, rank for a random keyword and whoever is accumulates the most points (per the 1-10 scoring system we discussed earlier) wins.

I found a keyword that Ilya discussed above.

Does anyone want to offer up any prizes for the winner?

- 30 days
- 1 domain
- No using the keyword in your domain, or any parasites
- Prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place
- Whoever has the most points after 30 days wins

Thoughts?

I'm fairly certain that using a keyword of that nature means we're playing with a sub algorithm that respond to things differently then more "normally" targeted keywords. I think picking a lightly targeted keyword with at least a a little bit of search volume would offer a better demonstration of real world conditions.

You guys need to target "shake weight reviews"

That's the point - you may/may not hit certain spam/popularity filters that you wouldn't get with aged keywords. Makes it all the more fun ;).

Somewhat related sidenote: I talked to Rand for about twenty minutes last Friday at a conference down here and brought up the Dog Snuggie incident to him. He laughed and said to high five whoever was responsible for it. So Grindstone, you get a high five from me on behalf of Rand Fishkin whenever I see you in the future.
