Ok just did some research on huskies, it seems they arent exactly good guard dogs. From siberianhuskyclub.com:

weird, but you can still get an alaskan malamute. looks about the same, and will scare the shit out of everyone.

Just put signs up when you are out

"My house is now alarmed and booby trapped due to numerous break ins, yes I realise booby trapping my house is illegal and you can sue me but is having your legs chopped off and a couple of spears through your guts really worth suing me over?"

I am more amazed at the lack of a backup.

Amazed at how much it makes me aware of my backup situation and the dire need for a review.

Damn you Americans and your laxed gun laws! I want a fuckin gun dammit.
You are the reason there are gun laws!

Seriously, everyone should make self-defense and home-defense their priority. The cops don't give a shit, and only show up after the crime has been committed. Safety is an individual responsibility.

poto most husky's are friendly as and can easily be led away by strangers.. i've heard of many being stolen that way.

unless of course yours has had some training...

she's not a husky, she's a wolf-shep, Timberwolf and German Shepard mix... she's much smarter than an ordinary dog, and really hasn't needed any training, although I have taught her a few tricks... she's pretty friendly to me, but doesn't like new people until after I tell her it's ok...

How much did he cost you?

she was free... this weird old Indian dude gave her to me...

It's cute!

thanks :)

Wow, your dog looks awesome. What's the exact breed and has it proven itself as a good guard dog?

she's a hybrid 75% Timberwolf and 25% German Shepard... she's been a great guard dog...

anybody interested in the story of how I got her and more pics of my dog can see em on my crappy blog my dog | poto.me

The lack of backup is what is really bothering me. Never gonna let it happen again, though. Tried to install a laptop homing software thingy just over two weeks ago, but couldn't find a suitable one.

Am in the process of adopting a rottweiler called Karma now. Hoping to see her today. I've heard rottweilers will let intruders in to the house, but they won't let them out after. How funny would it be to come home one day greeted by Karma and a burglar. My exact words to the burglar would be "Karma got you."

I've heard wolf-shepherd crosses are excellent dogs. I think they started breeding them in Eastern Europe somewhere, hence the name Romanian or Czeck Wolfdog or something like that. They don't sell them in Australia, though.

That is one fucking awesome looking dog.

yeah, they make great dogs, but they aren't for everybody... they have a very high prey drive, so it's not a good idea to get one if you have small children or plan on having kids anytime soon... it's sad, but a lot of people buy them for novelty and don't care for them properly...

rottweilers are good dogs too... your dog doesn't really need to be a fierce attack dog, as most of the time just the presence of a large dog or some barking will be enough to scare off a thief...

you can train your dog to bark at strangers or noises and things really easily... just get the dog excited and give it a treat every time it barks at somebody or a noise (knock on the door, etc.), or every time you come home and the dog greets you with a bark, treat it... positive reinforcement works really well...

That is one fucking awesome looking dog.

thanks

Yep. They will also try and kill cats and other small pets. Even the apparently friendly ones can snap at any time.

Saw 5 in the pound when i went looking for a dog. They said people surrender them all the time.

They can escape 6 foot fences and need incredibly secure yards. Certainly not a dog for everyone.

Good luck with the Rottweiler - where you getting her/him from?

if you get them stoned every once and a while it can really help mellow them out...

Poto: Part wolf hey? That'd be an awesome dog to have... They're so pack oriented. I wish we had them here. Guess I could settle for a dingo. It'd keep the neighbour's kids out of the yard at least.
But any large dog is a good security dog, as most people just see a big dog and piss off. My current one is an adorable moron that rolls over for strangers, but he's 38kg and likes to bark.

6 months of being a registered gun club member and (I think it's) 25 logged hours on a firing range, as well as cert I instruction on handling, safety and maintenance. Then you can apply for a license, get it in the mail in a couple of weeks, then just waltz into your nearest gun-smith and make sure you buy a safe as part of your first purchase... Don't be shocked by the range though. We're pretty much limited to revolvers, bolt action rifles and shotguns here.
Also, don't expect to be allowed to carry unless you've got a Security Cert IV or work in law enforcement.

I think a lot of people misunderstand the pack animal thing... mine is pretty anti-social compared to most dogs... she doesn't beg for attention or care to be petted for long periods like most dogs... she's fine just hanging out and being in her own space/territory... she's pretty chill most of the time which suits me well, since she doesn't bother me or distract me from my work unless she needs something or wants to play...

truecrypt sensitive data. (not that the thieves care about your campaign, just something peopel should be doing in general)

I haven't had a break-in since I got my dog...

I also put up some of those 'beware of dog' signs... I think that helps deter people...

I want to steal your dog.
