Hangover remedies?

I drink quite a lot and get pretty gnarly hang overs, so I've done quite a bit of research on anit-hangover remedies. I tend to find a lot of random wild things similar to this thread, but I've tried a variety of them and it really only helps a bit (for me).

Obviously, tons of water and gatoraide help, but who the hell wants to drink a litter of water after every beer? And trying to chug a gallon of water right before bed isn't really ideal, it just doesn't settle right. Charcoal, vitamins, ani-hangover pills -never did much that I was aware of and weed just intensifies everything in my head. (And it won't kill you instantly, but you guys know that acetaphetamine + alcohols is like the #1 liver killer right?)

I've noticed that my hangovers over the last few years have become progressively worse too, but then I realized it was because I became addicted to scotch. Scotch seriously fucks my world up the next day. 400ml, about 4.5 shots, of Scotch is much harder on me than 8 beers. A good friend of mine drinks whiskey waters (like 1/3 whiskey, 2/3 water) and claims to never get hung over because of it. (I think they are a bit gross)

I've heard that the absolute surefire method is the IV Drip and I actually called the one in Vegas once, but they charge like $120 DURING business hours. I would have done it at the time, but they only had their "emergency after hours" service which cost over $300. Ugh, missed a nice dinner that night.

The only real accessible cure that works for me is "hair of the dog", but I have to use it as a tool to feel better and then eat/hydrate. I have to be careful though, it's not hard to drink it all away then wake up again feeling 2X worse.

Hangovers are the reason I drink quite a bit less now. No sob story, I just fucking love getting ma drink on.

"hair of the dog that bit you" simply means to drink more to make the pain go away. Speaking of which, I think I'm going to have a Bloody Mary right now.

Reminds me of a poster they have at this little bar near me in Bangkok:

Your best bet for a hangover is prevention. Drink one cup of water for every cup of booze. Its a ballpark figure but hydration is very important when you drink.

A cleaner alcohol like a top grade vodka is better than beer in terms of a hangover. (not by volume)

I saw a post on reddit that involved coconut water being an IV drip and found this:

It is said that coconut water is identical to human plasma and can be injected directly into the human bloodstream. The story has its origin from World War II where British and Japanese patients were given coconut water intravenously because saline solution was in short supply.[6] Doctors today say that they wouldn’t be inclined to set up a coconut water IV for dehydrated patients. It could possibly cause elevated calcium and potassium, which could be dangerous.[7]

Hmm, maybe that shit is cray. Need to try it out.

Fuck off.

A hangover is a cruel mixture of dehydration, screwed blood sugar levels and alcohol withdrawal, right? I take a 3 step approach to counteracting it:

1. When you get in, drunkenly chug 2-3 pints of water and leave another by your bed. You'll feel like bloated shit, but if it's 3/4/5+ AM and you're wasted, you'll be asleep in minutes anyway. Wake up the next day, and that's the majority of your dehydration taken care of.

2. Eat yourself into regular blood sugar levels, I'm partial to anything meaty and/or spicy - any meal will help, but I like to be particularly anti-social.

3. Pop a painkiller for any residual nastiness and, if you're still not quite there, have a beer or a shot to get rid of any lingering withdrawal.

They've done studies. 60% of the time, it works every time.

I knew a nurse that for her bachlorette party got everyone trashed, and then hooked up saline drips for everyone in the early a.m. when they got back -- no one had hangovers the next day because after 2 bags you've effectively flushed the majority of toxins.

Found out by chance CDP Choline and Aniracetam prevented the spinning room, nausea (when working out) and hangover. ymmv
