All the fuck I wanted was for someone that runs or helps run this forum to state "YES...we do all we can to protect your personal information" from hacks, shady mods and the like. Then someone sends me this Word of Advice | ppc.bz

So I really don't know what to think now.

1) Forum mods warning of shady shit with PM's
2) Forum mods harvesting IPs to use for some guru script
3) Forum mods playing dumbass and insulting members that are really concerned

FUCK! did Harro take over wickedfire or something?!?!?

I'm sure the PM thing was just a joke from barman. I'm no VB whizz but I haven't noticed anyway to read PMs in the shit we have access to.

To those calling for mods to sort this out, it's kinda over our heads as the whole issue is about another mod. Jon has addressed this and hopefully that will satisfy some of you.

Remember guys, just as you wouldn't like to be associated with the actions of all the other WF members it is illogical and unfair to do the same with the mod team. We are individuals, please judge us on own actions (or lack of, if you like).

Peace.

Yeah a couple of weeks ago I had a member tell me to go check out one of her PMs from someone else (spam or some such thing) and I was like "go check them out? This ain't 1984, you know, you gotta forward that thing to me" Then she linked me to barman's post and I was like either he's fucking with everyone or I'm missed the big brother button.

Wait... you mean you don't have access to the big brother button?

That's my favorite button of them all!
(Next to that "Censorship now" and the "Hail Jon" buttons)

A final word,

1. My first google query on 'viewing pm's on vbulletin' yielded a plugin, so in 5 minutes a vbulletin super mod could be thriffling through PM's.

Super Admins can Read Private Messages - vBulletin.org Forum

2. Someone claimed a long while back, and I offer no proof, validity or even remember who it was, but claimed that Jon had came forward to Wes Mahler about buying prosper data.

If (BIG if, but was said nevertheless) the above was true, how does that fare for all the potential campaign data being exchanged on WF. I think it's safe to state that even though you guys say you don't have access, which in all probability is truth. I want to make sure the members know this is very easy, and every PM is unencrypted.

3. In the rules themselves, Jon states

Scam here, and you will be banned for life. Chances are also pretty good that your full information will be posted publicly here to ensure that you do not attempt to poison us with your crap again.

Wouldn't it be logical to assume that this 'full information' would be gathered starting from the point of least resistance?

4. The complacency in which the NickyGate affair was handled, the attemped subversions and general disregard until the front page practically had to be filled with Nicky posts for anyone to reply seriously.

Finally, I don't think WF is turning in communist China, but it's better to be aware of what is being said, done AND not done - to take it all into consideration. There are some extreme positions taken on this forum but I've always considered both sides and state things as I see them. I'm not on anyone's "side". I don't want this to be portrayed as an attack, and I don't personally think Jon would do this without a very good reason.

That being said, it's better to be paranoid than sorry. As stated by our very own ppc.bz.

We have 3 admins. None of them are even on frequently.
Jon - Not on too often. Not a techie. Certainly not going to care about your PMS.

Stanley - Barely on. I would know if he was, and he's not. And he doesn't run campaigns.

Brandon - Almost never on, and I don't think he's even an affiliate.

No one else has access.

Wes Mahler can't sell prosper data. He doesn't have it.

Just fine. Though not many exchange campaign details I would imagine(wtf is wrong with you guys?)

....it's not easy if you don't have access. Your e-mail isn't encrypted either. OMG is Matt Cutts stealing your PPC campaigns?

I'm normally the one who does the tracking, so I take this personally. I don't need your profile to find out as much as I want about most people here. And I don't use it. But even if I was using profile data, we can't see much more than your e-mail.
4. The complacency in which the NickyGate affair was handled, the attemped subversions and general disregard until the front page practically had to be filled with Nicky posts for anyone to reply seriously.
Because you're all a bunch of idiots, and someone already posted screenshots showing nicky did not delete the posts everyone's saying he did. And going after him for something EVERY SINGLE PERSON that had an image in their sig could've gotten from an apache log file is fucking ridiculous.

Be as paranoid as you'd like, but this is getting stupid.

Slightly Shady has spoken. So you all better shut your mouths before he ruins your credit score. Oh yes, he has that power.
