Here are my thoughts on hiring someone.
If I could have used this guy, I would have said;
"This is what I need done, this is how much I will pay you per hour, I think it will take X hours but if it takes you longer that's fine, just explain to me why my estimate was off. You will get paid regardless."
Then he says, "When do you want this done by?"
and I give him a casual, "Whenever you can get it done, say the next 10 days."
Then I judge when he got it done, how he got it done and what it cost me.
Then I decide if I want to use him again. If not, I say thanks and don't give him any more work.
