I think that news has been squashed and whitewashed by now since it doesn't fit with the "axis of evil" message. You had to be paying attention when during the heat of the moment the S. Koreans on the investigation team made the unauthorized statement that there was no evidence of an explosion - no charred bodies, no dead fish, no characteristics of a blast on the hull - just a big hole in the hull of the ship that looked like it had run aground on a reef.

I'm wondering how relevant this is since the "in billions" scale probably refers to US$ and a bomb in the U.S. probably costs at least 10X than an equivalent bomb in China.
More useful would be a comparison of standing army, tanks, bombers, artillery, etc. I know those comparisons exist but not going to look for them now. I'm just guessing but I bet that China has enough soldiers to blanket the entire U.S.

If China tried a ground invasion of the US, I don't even think the US would need its military. Civilian population is armed to the teeth, and could probably do the job just fine.
If China pulled up all its reserves, and sent every last soldier over, there'd be 4.5 million soldiers in the US. The civilian population in the US is estimated to have 200 million firearms, plus the military and law enforcement have another 150 million, for a total of 350 million guns in the US.

Agreed, the only thing the civilians probably couldn't deal with are heavy armor and air assets, the military would most likely be needed for that.
