I'm changing. I'm looking for the good in everything. So the sad fact that this thread was so terribly derailed, has allowed me to swell my ignore list. So many idiots coming out of the wood works. No sence arguing with idiots, they will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

wow, just found about the shooting late last night. The worst is when I heard the parents were meeting up with their kids at another place. Then they had to tell the parents with no kids that no more kids were showing up, worst feeling ever.

Having teachers with guns is fine but if this guy can be crazy and go on a shooting spree on children, what about teachers? Not sure if taking that chance would be wise.

If the teachers had been armed, they would've just ended up missing the shooter and killing a bunch of kids! Anyone with a gun is untrained and totally inept when it comes to firing one!

I'd like to hear how taking away guns will "solve" the problem. Consider, for example here in Costa Rica its perfectly legal to own a gun (and many people do). You don't hear about these fucking kids going and shooting up schools. It's not the guns fault. How is removing guns going to solve anything? The guys who want guns will always find them, legal or not.

What happens the day you wake up at 3am to a smash downstairs, and realize somebody is in your house? And possibly coming up the stairs to where your family is sleeping? What are you going to do if you don't own a gun.. call the police, wait for them, hide in the closet and pray they don't open it?

This debate illustrates the problem with legislative decision-making in this country. Both opposing sides exaggerate what the other is pursuing to the point where they are completely unreachable. Is the answer to outlaw firearms completely? Absolutely not, but I also don't see that being suggested by any rational folks. Is the answer to allow anyone that wants to carry a firearm to have one with no opposition? Absolutely not, but very few are suggesting that. The problem is side A wants X and side B wants Z, we end up with all the worst components of Z and X, with none of the positives, because neither side wants to concede that exaggerations of their ideology could be counter-productive.
