lukep, want me to buy you a domain mate? wordpress.com, are you for fucking real?
Lulz... I state clearly on the about page why I chose wordpress.

That blog isn't even meant to be monetized. It serves my purposes well.

Also your argument for why people aren't using the ASIC rigs themselves doesn't make any sense. If you can make your money back in four days the free market says that you should do that and not sell it.
Most miners respect the free market, but there is a large subset of them who aren't just in mining for the money. They truly believe and want to help bitcoin succeed...

All it takes is one of those with ASIC knowledge to bring a rig to the market. Just one. And all the others will find it cheaper & faster to buy his products than R&D their own.

Most retarded shit I've seen in awhile.
Then you're just not bright enough to understand it, bro.

Yikes, just came across this thread:

Re: Butterfly Labs CEO 25 Million USD Mail Fraud — A Concise Summary of Evidence

The CEO of Butterfly Labs is a convicted felon (25M USD worth of mail fraud.) BFL hid this fact from its customers. (As they knew how the silly internet would react to this information.) The information here presented would predictably make it much harder from BFL to acquire huge amounts of money through pre-orders. (Yes, they have successfully taken in huge amounts of pre-paid pre-orders on untested, unreleased products, as can be easily verified.) This post aims to collate the relevant, publicly available information and present it in a concise, readable format.
From what I'm reading in this thread, this was actually confirmed by a BFL spokesperson:

Although this may be cause for concern to some, the fact is that we're a robust company with 22 employees. One of them has a colorful background in offshore libertarianism. If I thought there was even the possibility of something unsavory going on within BFL, you can rest assured I would a) not be part of it and b) would let everyone know it.
Is this for real? So he just has a "colorful background in offshore libertarianism".....WTF?

Yeah, it was confirmed by Sonny himself, here:

He's certainly got a questionable past. That's the main reason I hesitate to throw money their way, in fact. But this explanation doesn't sound too bad... And he's not the CEO.

So again, time will tell. Sigh.

Fiat money isn't like those either. What are you even trying to say here? You just went full retard.

Ad-hominem didn't work so you resort to strawman but fail.

Isn't "full retard" ad-hominem? In any case, all of those are commodities that have been used as money. Bitcoins are not money. Once the anonymity feature of bitcoins gets clamped down on by the gov't, bitcoins will be doomed.

So, I have two questions:

1. If someone asked you to buy "coin" that existed only in cyberspace and was backed by nothing but a mathematical equation, would you think they were sane? (BTW,the regression theorem fully explains why unbacked paper money today can have value, just in case LukeP is reading.)

2. If the anonymity feature of bitcoins disappeared, do you think that would devastate them?

Explain to me how all todays currencies are any different. Please do not tell me that you think the dollar is still backed by gold, it hasn't been for a long time. 90%+ of it only exists in cyberspace. The US Dollar isn't backed by anything, not even math, and is counterfietable. It is impossible to counterfiet bitcoins.

The value of fiat currency is imaginary, it's an illusion. Bitcoin does not violate the regression theorem.

How do you suppose the government will be able to stop bitcoin? You mean like they stop all crime, drugs, and illegal activities? They sure do a great job at that...

Bitcoins aren't anonymous. All transactions are publicly visible. The anonymity is up to the user.

Google "regression theorem" or search Mises.org for info.

Also, could you answer the two questions I asked? :) Even if the gov't can't completely shut down bitcoin, it will primarily be used for illegal transactions. I don't think using them for illegal transactions is necessarily bad. I just don't buy the argument that bitcoins are money. Most or all of their value is derived from money laundering. Again, I don't have any problems with money laundering but that doesn't make bitcoins money.

I look at my US bank account filled with US dollars that only exist in cyberspace. I get paid for work and goods in US dollars that only exist in cyberspace. Am I sane?

Bitcoin does not violate the regression theorem.

You have a scewed definition of "money" if you think it does not apply to Bitcoins. The only requirement for it to be money is for it to be accepted by many as payment for goods. This has already happened years ago.

Care to cite your source that most of it's value is derived from laundering? That's entirely not true.

I used to mine ore and iron in Runescape many years ago. At one point I purchased an auto-miner to do it for me. They detected it and banned me, which led to me quitting the game. What are we mining here and can I get banned again?

How many more questions are you going to ask before answering the two I asked above?

You are mining invisible coins created by computer pixies. You will get banned if you use unicorns in the mining process. You have been warned!

BTW, how many unicorns does it cost to get the Iron Man suit in your avatar?
