Thai Fishing industry Slavery

Another bit to add to the actual subject of this post (tards posting attacks can ignore). Story in the Bangkok Post today about Thailand's position on a new pact by the International Labor Organization on forced labor. Link here -> Thailand snubs pact to halt forced labour | Bangkok Post: news

Key sentence: "Thailand's new military government was the only government to vote against the treaty at ILO's annual ministerial conference, ILO officials said."

It took you how many years to realize the Thai culture views all foreigners as less than human? Shit, I thought that was obvious before I even got out of BKK.

Have the government get involved to end your slavery? No way. SLIPPERY SLOPE of government meddling.

Governments are the ones that institutionalized slavery.

In your world, if an armed man sticks a gun in your face and takes your shit, then gives some of it back - you interpret that as the armed man solving the problem by kindly giving you back some of what was stolen.

I'm having trouble wrapping my head around that shit.

Yay free market. Can't wait for the glorious arrival of anarcho-capitalism so we can have lots more of this.

Which one of you motherfuckers created this account? This is some high level trolling.

Fuck me, that shrimp salad for dinner was good! Shrimp was straight from the fresh street market in Thailand. Paid for with my bitcoin monies too. :)

LOL. An account with the name "Mises" calling me trolling because I disagree with his stupid assumptions about how the world really works.

I agree with Jerry.

When I think of compassion for humanity, I think of governments. Stalin, Mao, Hitler, Pol Pot etc - all great humanitarians, and all leaders of government.

And not just great humanitarian leaders, but governments are behind all of the greatest humanitarian actions like delivering democracy to countries like Afghanistan and Iraq. Or mass surveillance of the citizenry for their own protection and drones dipped in compassion.

More government is good. You libertarians are just being silly.

Well, haven't you seen the massive amount of freedom the Iraqis are currently basking in, especially over the past week?

I'm still scratching my head, wondering why they haven't erected huge statues of George W Bush to thank him for their freedom.

They just can't appreciate it with their way of thinking. But soon they will learn it is double-plus-good.

Jerry, had you listed those examples of all the positive externalities that governments are so famous for in the first place, we would have never disagreed. Thanks fellas, my "stupid assumptions" of how the world really works have been quashed.

To the tagger that suggested I'm "waking up" - I assure you that I will spend the majority of my energy (after making monies) on freeing the greater humanity, not just the slaves in the more harsh conditions.

That's really sweet, and I hope you won't be offended when I say that's really American of you.

I hope your journey continues to the point where you realize that you are already living in the society that is best suited to your sort of idealism (an argumentative, litigious society that believes people should get involved and indeed encourages it).

Hopefully this Guardian story will alert them and we see some quick improvement.

It won't. The Thais pride themselves on ignoring anything and everything that is even slightly disturbing - hence the reason their society is so corrupt and has military coups every ten years. In other words, by their passivity, they are actually colluding with and enabling all the bad stuff.

You are not going to find your perfect society in Chile either or anywhere else where people are passive. Good governance requires an active argumentative population and society, which is tiresome and tiring to live within, but also safer than all the alternatives. Acknowledge that and realize that you are better off in Kansas.

Since you chickened out of my earlier requests, maybe you can give us all a summary on the teaching of Mises and your response to it?

I see how you'd think that, of course. In your dim worldview it would surely appear like I just want to help my kind and let the worst-off stay suffering... But what you can't understand is that there really is only one goal that helps anyone gain more freedom; and it by definition will free everyone.

Once governments have no place on this world, the number of slaves will drop from millions down to tens. Only governments can protect slavemasters on that scale from being stopped/killed by people who want to free the slaves. (Charities, bountyhunters, do-gooders, etc. Humanity is full of people who want to help but are today told help means funding governments.)

Sorry, I explored that complete dead-end back in college. Since then I've learned that positions of power are always sought out by people who seek power, and therefore government & authority in general are by default the root of all evil.

No man is fit to rule over another man. I know this seems impossible to you but I've been looking for years and have seen plenty to know it's not only possible, but it's coming soon.

DAT'S RACIST! -But a bit true, I agree.

I don't have much hope for them when so many ppl are still fighting to get Thaksin back in charge... You'd think after so long of being exiled they'd give up by now, but his corruption runs extra deep.

Perfect? Ha. No one was looking for that this side of governmental armageddon. I was just looking for someplace "1st-world" that doesn't steal nearly as much from me as the USSA does.

Good governance requires an active argumentative population and society,
And it requires unicorns too; lots of them. A unicorn in every garage that grants 3 wishes a day. :thefinger:

I'm aware of alternatives that you are not. I disagree.

I see you've completely missed the point of what I was saying. (I'm going to ignore the insults about my "dim worldview" because you're just a mixed up kid who deserves a pass :)

I wasn't talking about you only wishing to "help your own kind". Far from it.

I was alluding to your mentality. It's quintessentially American. But you can't see it (yet) because you've convinced yourself "USSA" aka your homeland that shaped you and how you think, is "evil".

Hopefully you won't waste too much of your life going from place to place looking for this mythical country where "No man is fit to rule over another man" and you'll eventually realize that the place of maximum freedom is actually Kansas, where you started from!

Peace out!

Hey Luke, maybe you can get behind something like MaidSafe and help bring it to Thailand. The country could really use something like that about now.

Actually, I'm convinced that all governments and people that support them (collectively known as statism) is evil, and mankind's only enemy.

Even the relatively nice & stable states like Switzerland are my enemy, and yours too if only you were bright enough to figure out what's bad for you.

Oh don't worry, I won't. I know EXACTLY where to find the place of maximum freedom.

It might yet prove to be in Kansas... But it's not here yet.

Maidsafe dissapoints me because they've created an altcoin called the "safecoin" which is unnecessary.

Storj is looking better, I'm on the fence about it. I'll let everyone here know when we have a real solution as soon as I see it completed.
