The Best of Popeye

On a side note, I like to chase storms and probably missed the last big one of the year today. At least Oklahoma is cool for something.

Yea we are under a tornado watch as I type this. I have seen about 15 tornadoes first hand. The worst was a f4 out the window of my 20th floor condo. That was some scary shit. Chicken Marys is in Kansas.

Lazy Hippy: Yeah, we picked up on most of Britain's major coal contracts and started shipping out of Newcastle.
Perspective from our side of the pond, Thatcher screwed things up big time, and was actually one of the driving forces behind the Republican movement getting a big boost back then.

Anyone know of any islands for sale. I would love to start a new country ran by Tony Blair, Newt Gringrich and Margaret Thatcher.
There are a few off of our coast... It's why we've got more micronations than any other continent.
I saw an island about 25km from the Whitsundays go for $12m AUD.
Still near coral reefs, great weather. Of course, you'd have to live like a liberal by using solar power to generate all your electrical, and you'd more than likely have to grow some of your own food & veg due to quarantine issues.
Of course, it does mean you'd be back under the power of the British Monarchy... You'd have to have tea at 4:00pm, your football would be Rugby (or maybe AFL), and your bat'n'ball game would be Cricket... Them's the rules.

I've been watching the storms on radar all night (heading my way)... Looks like there's a tornado on the ground as I type this... but it's a few counties northeast of you.

True, it's impossible to ignore things, but there is no way we should be ok with people voting for a christian (jew, muslim, ...) for office just because we believe the same. It's just more narrow minded bigotry
I think voting is a waste of time, and totally unproductive. As the saying goes, if voting changed anything, they would make it illegal. Or as Stalin said, it's not who votes, it's who counts the votes.

But if you believe in liberty, then you believe in people making dumb decisions for dumb reasons. The difference in a liberty oriented society, is that those decisions that they make, only affect them. They can't ruin your life by voting based on bigotry.

Which again, is why voting is a joke. Democracy is just mob rule.

McCain would be the perfect candidate to oversea the dismantling of Guatenamo.
Funny you should mention that. I was reading about all of Obama's election promises.

Repeal Patriot Act
Repeal FISA
Withdraw troops
Close Gitmo

Apparently, he has now indicated he will not do any of that. Surprise, surprise. When will people realize, you only get two choices, because it doesn't matter which one you pick!

WTF..I guess You and I do share something in common. I attended Oklahoma University and chased storms with the meteorology department all the time.

I got caught up in some stuff that made me shit my pants.

I'm going to take some time to let this settle in ... I know you to not to be an idiot and totally talk out of your ass so I'm going to sleep on it and see how I feel about it tomorrow.

It's going to be a hard pill to swallow since it will mean I'll have to break out the aluminum foil and roll my own hat. This would be the mother of all conspiracies, which by default makes ALL the rest of them true.

lol... I thought about going to school for meteorology myself. And as much as I'd like to talk about this right now, it looks like we have a couple cells headed my way that currently have tornadoes on the ground.

Guess it's time to pack up and go to my friend's house (basement).

Oh shit. All I see is rain. North West is boring I need some action.

You and Popeye, share something in common? Agreeing? Did either one of you catch any flying pigs on that radar?

Thanks for the respect.

This isn't conspiracy theory. Well, I guess it is if you wonder why everyone votes and democracy is emphasized over the American Constitutional republic. It is a big difference, between a democracy and a republic, and I don't think many people understand that difference anymore.

But what I am saying is, 95% of the people were against the bailout. Their reps didn't listen to them. To add insult to injury, they tacked on more pork. The only time politicians care, is when they are up for election, and because their time horizon is so short (until the next election) they never worry about the future, which is why they rack up massive debt. They actually sell the future, for more political favors (that win votes) now. How corrupt is that?

Even if you could theoretically change your politician, you still have no guarantee that they will do what they promise, or faithfully defend and follow the law.

I think we'll see that with Obama, who is already back pedaling on his promises. Bush, Obama doesn't matter. There are 1 million government bureaucrats who operate the machine, and until they are downsized, re-ordered, removed, fired etc, the wars, the spending etc. will all carry on.

For years, the GOP ran on an pro-life position. Everyone worries about SCOTUS. But Congress could have passed a simple bill that Ron Paul has written (when they had the majority and the executive) to remove abortion from the jurisdiction of the SCOTUS. They could have made the ruling irrelevant and returned control to the states. But, that's not really on the bigger agenda. Likewise, Republicans for years had removing the Dept. of ED on their platform. When they had the majority, they didn't do it.

What they say and what they do are two different things.

I mean, does anyone really believe that their one vote, or even 4 votes they might be able to squeeze out of their household, in some way means more to the candidates than the millions they receive from Wall Street, the defense industry, the pharma industry, the prison industry? Of course not.

You will know who Newt is in 4 years
If Newt didn't run this time I don't see him running in four years. I think he's mainly afraid that he'll get squashed and give history the defining bookend for the Republican Revolution in 1994.

But it would be pathetic if they ran him, if only because it would prove that they can't get beyond the 90s-era playbook. If they seriously want to compete they need to find a new standard-bearer, and Gingrich or Palin aren't gonna cut it.
