Anyone else run into this shit with family members? My wife and I have a daughter that's just about 2 yrs old and we want to have 1 more so she can have a sibling. 2 seems like a good number, no more than that.

Anyhow, we mention our plans from time to time to her side of the family, particularly her mother and her grandmother and they come back with "I don't know, with the way things are going, these seem like the end times", as if to say it's not worth it because the world is ending?

My response is always the same.. We've survived the dark ages, the great depression, 2 world wars & a holocaust.. and these are the end times?

Fucking christians. I remember hearing that same bullshit all the time at church when I was younger.

I actually do know what you're talking about. I have respect for people who don't want to have kids because they've greatly researched overpopulation issues and stuff like that, but I much more frequently encounter the weariness without the reason.

Here is a plan for you.

1.) Stop sleeping with your wife.

2.) Wait for her to somehow get miraculously preggers. I'm sure you can find a volunteer. Maybe you are into that and want to watch - who knows.

3.) Announce to family that there is no way such a fine Christian girl could get preggers with anyone else. You will have to use a little technology to have "angels" visit her family so they aren't snickering behind your back.

4.) Have birth outside. I hear a barn is a good place. Make sure three internet guru's come bearing gifts. Maybe affiliate network perks will count?

5.) Announce a new messiah.

6.) Collect donations to support the raising of the second coming of a child of god.

Fuck the religious stupidity. But the underlying fear that civilisation, as we know it, is going to collapse during the next fifty years is well within the realms of possibility (through purely natural causes). I do sometimes wonder what kind of crappy existence my son might have when he reaches my age.

Anyway, don't they think that your family, especially the children, will be transported off to heaven? I thought that was the point - that the (self)righteous were saved and the rest of us would be toast?

I'm actually ecstatic at the thought of christians not having children because they think the end is nigh. Excellent.
 
I'm 30, and I honestly can't remember a time when it wasn't the "end times", and the world wasn't going to end in the near future. Been hearing that shit since I was a kid, and we're all still here. All this "end times" bullshit confirms is that the media is good at enstilling fear into the populous.

Here's a plan from someone who was into such things in the past:

1. Meet-up with the 'end times' family members.

2. Read them the passage where Jesus described his return (= END TIMES) and said to the people listenting that 'this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away" Matt 24:29 - 35.

3. ??? (= quite sipping of drinks or moral majority outrage)

4. End of escatological mutterings and other such downers when you want to talk about happy things like another kid.

Are you talking about the whole 2012 theory? I don't believe in that either, but I do know things can happen. I don't live my life around that stuff or live in fear, but I love seeing all these possible scenarios. They make good movies I enjoy.
 
OP, if I were you I would feel insulted. God works in strange ways, in this case he/it is using "end times" as an excuse.

Really, what they mean is that they do not have confidence in you raising their grand-kids. They would really prefer some other christian boy to breed good christian kids with their daughter. Then one day they would all meet happily ever after in "heaven".

Feel free to print this out and discuss it with them, because Jesus loves honesty.
