What the hell, here's my noob journal

After 5 months of not doing much more than lurking around, I decided to finally start something to get me some monies. I'm working 9-5 like most people and even though I don't hate my job, I'd be more than happy to gain the same or even more with IM.
As I don't really have the hangs of things, I decided to do everything myself :domain research, article writing, spinning, inner and outer SEO.

I decided to attack the French market, for many reasons : I'm French (hate me), and the French market is not as saturated as the English one, where you can find EMD.com for crazy stuff like blue widget condoms or shit.

So, I found what appeared not to be a bad keyword : monthly SEOT of 20,790 for broad match and 5400 for exact match with SEO competition of 287,000. I'm also targeting 3 other keywords with broad match monthly SEOT of 13,902, 1,512 and 1,008.

I bought the EMD.org because .com and .net were not available, put on wordpress with some good looking theme from elegantthemes, and wrote 5 good quality articles. I also put on a privacy policy page, contact policy and a sitemap to increase page count.

For the monetization, I am targeting amazon.fr as it is the place I got the idea for my keyword.

For SEO, I bought scrapebox 2 days ago and scraped a list of blogs that are relative to my keyword. I started commenting (manually, so no spam) on blogs that have a PR higher than 2, but I don't know how much commenting I should do in a day, because I don't want to get sandboxed. For now, I stop at 10 comments a day and wonder if I should do more.
I also built 10 web 2.0 properties with an article I span manually (what a fucking pain) and start wondering if I should blast them with some xrumer service.

Right now, I'm indexed in google and bing (have pretty good ranking for bing thanks to manual submission) but nowhere in top 1000 for google.
Today, I plan to do more blog commenting and maybe add some content.

Sorry for the wall of text and thanks for reading. If you have any suggestions, questions or anything, please feel free to reply or pm me.

You write good English for a frog :)

I dont think you have any risk of getting sandboxed for those kinda numbers, you can definately do more.

good on you for doing it all manually, will help in the future when you're paying someone else to do it :)

Thank you man, working as a translator helps for English

How much commenting would be ok for one day ? I'm ready to do way more if there is no risk of sandboxing. The only word of sandboxing makes me shit-scared so I don't want to rush things too much.

Why organic traffic? If you have some capital and want faster results i would suggest paid traffic & cpa offers.

Here is why : I'm a total noob and don't want to throw away to much money.
I am starting small and hoping for some success to get some momentum to start more stuff.
For now, this is part of my learning process.

With scrapbox I do about 500 + comments a day ( Auto Approve) no problems. Also do 1k+ to articles and web 2.0's. Don't worry about that sandbox especially at 10 legit comments a day.

Wouldn't 500 comments a day be too much for a one-week old site ?
I don't mind hitting up articles and web 2.0 sites with a bunch of comments/profiles but for my money site, I don't know...
Also, most auto-approve blogs are in English. Would it have any influence on my French site ?

Today, I made 25 comments to PR4+ blogs I scraped yesterday. For abandoned blogs, I just put the keywords as my name, and for frequently updated sites, I just put some random name. Will comment some more today and see if anything happens.

everyone has to start somewhere! keep it up and work hard and you will prevail over time.

c'est la vie mes amis :)

Thanks man, that's exactly what I was thinking. I'm learning way more by doing it myself then by just reading stuff.

La vie est une pute

Did nothing much this week-end beside scraping more related blogs and buying a list of high PR forums and an auto-approve blog list on the BST section.
Got 10 backlinks indexed from the comments and 2.0 properties.
Most of my keywords are indexed but only one is ranking in the first 1000 results (223 now).
I'll continue doing some more manual comments and create profiles on some high PR forums.
I'm already getting some pageviews, most coming from a link on wikipedia that I put there, and some organic traffic. Some clicks for amazon products but still no conversion. Nothing to worry about for now.

Nice going so far.

I am German (hate me), but my French sucks, so I won't be able to cross the marginot line into your online ventures.

Please keep up this thread and I'll try to chime in.

As for now:
Try pacing your linkbuiolding with visitors.
So if you get 20 visitors, feel free to drop 20 links somewhere.

Wow, you know what ? My mother is German and I lived in Germany for five years (in Dusseldorf). Nice seeing some Germans in this IM game !

For now, I'm getting like 2 to 5 uniques a day, so do you think getting up to 5 links per day is ok ? I'm doing like 20 manual comments on PR 2-4 blogs a day for now.

I may get some xrumer blast done for the articles/web 2.0s I made till now (15 pages overall) but I have no idea how many profiles I should get for that. 2k ? 5k ? More ?
This IM game is a number's game but for the noob I am, these numbers are still pretty obscure.

The numbers are always in discussion.

From folks like me, who preach moderation to the max, to people who are blasting thousands of links a day.

20 a day is OK, I think. B ut if you have 5 visitors and 20'000 new links a day, something starts smelling fishy.

Yeah, I want to build a legit site for now, to learn how it goes, so no spamming and millions of links to my site for now.

So moderation it is !

Thanks for the props man. Good luck to you too.

And here's my update :

added 20 comments yesterday. I just bought a 2k xrumer blast for the web 2.0s and articles to get some link juice baby !

The keywords I was ranking for till yesterday disappeared from the top 1000 but I guess it's just google that's trying to guess what my site is about so no worries for now.

Will do some more commenting today and see if there's any change.

Quick update :

don't know if the xrumer blast is already working, but I got two new keywords ranking and the keyword that disappeared yesterday came back and jumped to top 200.

Keeping up with the manual comments and started marking not updated blogs for future reference.

So you used the Xrumer strictly on the 2.0s?

Thanks for keeping us in the loop, journal is off to a great start.

how about a little diagram of what you've done ? :D

Notsureifserious :eek7:

Yeah, from what I understand, it is best to target mainly social bookmarks, 2.0s and articles with rumer blasts. It doesn't feel right to blast commented posts somehow but maybe I'm wrong.

Quick question : I'm using this theme from Elegantthemes and it looks fucking great and professional but people that come on my site will either have to scroll down or to click somewhere to get to the content. Should I put a more simple theme on the site so that people can access content directly ?

Wow, that is a beautiful theme. Love the colors and slightly-non-grid-y layout. Of course, good design doesn't always lead to good conversions. Some niches appreciate nice themes, others appreciate animated sparkle gifs. Perhaps pick a timespan with relatively few other variables and A/B test another layout? You should probably wait until you've got statistically significant (~100/day) traffic to go crazy, though.

On another note, I wouldn't hesitate to blast comments through Xrumer. It can really help speed up the indexation process and IMO comments are higher value links than profiles.
