Windows Phone 8 in detail: new Start Screen, multi-core support, VoIP integration, and NFC | The Verge
Microsoft has given a 'sneak peek' at some of the upcoming features in Windows Phone 8. Besides the obligatory hardware increases that don't really matter to anyone except Android geeks, and a bunch of other interesting shit, some kickass game changing things that stand out to me are:
- Moving from a Windows CE core to a shared core with Windows 8, so software written for Windows 8 will run on the phone and vice versa.
- Fully integrated Skype that runs in the background, not only that but you can accept Skype calls like it was a normal phone call using the native phone app. Suck on that phone carriers.
The enterprise features are going to really drive it home...
- It allows companies to write their own custom apps just for distribution within the company, imagine the potential of that. Forward-thinking companies could move entire workforces to it.
- Full bitlocker encryption.
- The addition of a 'company hub' for app distribution and showing news\alerts within the business only.
Nobody can compete with those without jailbreaking\rooting iOS\Android, which will never happen. If they can gain enough traction in the enterprise world, forgeddaboutit. I'm glad I had the foresight, and foreskin, to choose Windows Phone over everything else 18 months ago.
