You've got 25k to pend on a car, what do you buy?

You really asked if you should buy a bmw on wickedfire? You should know by now that when it comes to wf's opinion no car on the planet is better than any single bmw even if said bmw is currently a metallic cube in a junk yard. NO CAR!! NONE!! NADDA!!! *HISS*

Stop hating Eli. :p

They are really nice, and its completely unexpected.

I get why everyone is saying to invest in ppc and get a better car but i didnt get where I'm at by blowing cash on hugely depreciating assets. If my house was paid off then maybe I'd go crazy with the car but I still have some ways to go on the mortgage.

You'd make a great Conservative.... just sayin'

the Fusion is a great car, I'd easily prefer it to a used BMW. The hybrid is even MSRP 28k - get some good deals with the luxury package, negotiate the price or find an employee one and you can get the hybrid luxury for ~25k:

Hybrid luxury package:

"Moon & Tune Package: Sony® sound system. Dolby DAEP 5.1 Surround Sound. In-dash 6-CD changer. MP3 capability. Twelve premium speakers. The sun. And the moon. Now that’s a nice package. Available on SEL, Sport and Hybrid. Voice-Activated Navigation: This isn’t your typical navigation system. Not when you consider its eight-inch touch screen is like a mini drive-in. Or that it delivers real-time traffic info, points out gas stations when your tank is low with integrated SIRIUS® Travel Link™* and gives you a 3-D bird’s-eye view of the maps on screen. On top of all that, it has a 10GB hard drive so you can store up to 2,400 songs. Browse your music with your fingertips or use voice activation to play a track. *Real-time traffic monitoring available in select markets. Some features are unavailable while driving. Service not available Alaska or Hawaii. SIRIUS Travel Link is a trademark of SIRIUS Satellite Radio, Inc. Heated, Leather-Trimmed Seats: Leather-trimmed front and rear seats, with front-row heating and eight-way power driver’s seat and six-way power front-passenger seat are standard on SEL. Also available on Hyrbid. Driver’s Vision Package: Consider it a helpful copilot. If a vehicle is in your blind spot, the class-exclusive* BLIS (Blind Spot Information System)™ warns you with an LED indicator light in the corresponding outside mirror when signaling. Its Cross-Traffic Alert feature sounds an audible beep when there’s oncoming traffic as you slowly back out of a parking spot as well as illuminates an LED indicator light in the corresponding exterior mirror. Want a real-time picture of what’s behind? The available class-exclusive rear view camera, which displays its image in the rearview mirror, or on the Navigation screen when so equipped, shows you just that. Available on SEL, Sport and Hybrid. *Class is Midsize Sedans."

Ford has vastly improved, and if you can get all that + new warranty + the mileage is 41 city 36 hwy, it's easy.

fuck it, for 25k I'm not buying a status symbol, I'll buy for practicality. a used merc or bmw isn't a status symbol, it says "I don't have the money for a top model but I still want to look cool, please tell me I'm cool :( "

If I buy a car locally I find a private seller(on my last deal, no dealer could even come close the price I got) Plus I hate dealing with the sales reps. Start watching CL (I guess autotrader has private sellers to), figure out a price and the miles you want, them make the calls and make offers; till you find something you need.
Better yet, figure out how you can pick up a car thought an auction. I live in the North West, but know a guy in Florida that can pick up a bmw at a large discount. You might want to call some local auction yards and ask about their procedures.

I'm rollin' around in a '04 TSX 6 speed and love it...when I was getting it I considered the A4 and Kompressor and while I like all 3 the Audis and Mercedes just have way higher maintenance and repair costs along with more problems (electrical, etc).

If I was going to upgrade at $25k I'd either get a newer TSX (2007-2009) or go for the TL for some more power. Fun to drive and reliable.

Try not to listen to people you know too much because no matter what they say they will usually be biased one way or another towards a certain brand or imports/domestics (just look at this thread).

Go on autos.msn.com and read some user reviews before you commit once you've made up your mind on a vehicle. There were a few times when I almost committed to one and quickly changed my mind after I read what others were saying. It's pretty easy to tell you're getting a pos if the same issues keep coming up over and over in the reviews. These are usually a lot less biased than what your friends and neighbors will tell you. my 2 cents

Don't have many pics but here's one of my puppy.

wow dude you are so wrong.. i love benzos and just cuz "all i can afford" is a 2004 doesnt mean im hurting - lol.. wtf? come on...

I didnt even buy it for a "status" symbol.. my car has 300+ HP & its a V8 5.0L, and has some of the coolest little gadgets i've ever seen.. I can't really think of a "better" way to spend 20k.. but im all ears

No you are wrong.
First of all in the first 2 years, the car will take a very large drop in value.
Up to 40% and it is still new.
So, buying a used BMW or Mercedes up to 3 years makes sense.
However, anything more will be problematic as now it comes time to replace a lot of major parts and here you are changing parts which are pricey while somebody else was driving around and busting nuts in it .

So, buy a BMW I would say 2-3 years old, OP.

This. I've always felt this way with people buying low-end models of certain car brands, esp w/ high miles. If I was you I would buy a year old Ford Fusion from a private seller w/ low miles at a good price, pay a bit under with cash and then get back to work. Good luck.
