I used to be a "conservative" too. I hated "welfare queens" and all that shit like Popeye. i never hated gays or other races, though. i am popeye's age. The difference is I grew up, basically into an anarchist. "Libertarian" if you like, but more anarchist really. These days, while I'd prefer neither i'd rather give the money to welfare queens than burn it in iraq or ship it to China.
If you dislike Obama because you think he's going to raise taxes and "tax and spend"- OK, then. But that is the EXACT same mentality McCain has. Bush is the biggest tax and spend liberal that has ever existed. McCain really gives no indication that he will change course. He is a self avowed "national greatness" socialist who worships Teddy Roosevelt and has never had a private sector career or had a real interest in cutting the government.
Obama is wrong, yes. But when you have 2 people who are wrong- i am going to root for ( root for, not endorse or vote for) the guy who seems less driven by fear and destruction.
Hating gays, racism and other thinly veiled ( if veiled at all) bigotry as a motivation is just bullshit, and only something small minded people get into. Either you believe in individual rights ( all rights are individual in nature and the individual is really the only unit in society that matters) or you don't. If you want to legislate your bigotries, you are scum. And if you really cared even a little bit about low taxes, you wouldnt support the government spending billions in Iraq and expanding the government to discriminate against individuals.
If you really believe that bullshit, you aren't even a conservative or a "real" Republican in any traditional sense. Having Sean Hannity call you one doesn't count.
