Anyone else tired of this "tipping culture" bullshit?

The amount of miserable and couldn't care less staff around is pathetic! They think that just because they took the time to do what they're getting paid to do that you owe them something!

I think they should only get paid in tips, that way the service might improve a bit!

Have you ever gone on a cruise? You have to fucking tip everyone from the second you pull up to the second you leave, a reason I will never go on another.
I haven't, but family members have been. Cruises are pretty ...evil. hehe

It's literally baiting people with $499 world-trip advertisements, into a 500x500 box, throwing it out on open ocean and then squeezing the fuck out of their wallets since they literally have no where else to go/to do.

Kinda creepy, once you think about it :338:

Yeah, I once saw a doc about waitresses. One started out in the 'back-office' and was hoping every day to move up to serving so that she could collect tips [...] to buy this and that in her own life etc. etc.

The whole thing was sooooo material, so objective... not a single word about providing service, treating customers better or anything like that.

Yeah the best are the dudes standing in the bathroom and want you to tip them for handing you a paper towel. WTF?

There shouldn't be any extra guys standing around in a men's bathroom - if you're not pissing or shitting gtfo

Fuck right. Those mother fuckers really piss me off. GTFO, mother fucker. I'm not tipping you to hand me a fucking paper towel. Eat shit!

I just don't wash my hands. Fuck, I don't even look at them.

Tipping bartenders well, however, is worth your while if you frequent somewhere very often. Fuck, I get treated like royalty at the one casino bar I'm at 2-3 times a week.

What really gets me, though, is the idiots who go out and talk to a hot bartender for a minute. She smiles and they think she wants to fuck them. They end up tipping her well, and for nothing. Pathetic. I make a point to tip the ugly ones well, not the pretty ones. Hot chicks piss me off . . . probably because they know they can get whatever they want by spreading.

What's even fucking worse is the douchebags who buy chicks drinks. Again, for nothing. 99.9% of these douchers don't' stand a fucking chance. Disillusioned fucks. :2drinkspit:

I once tip the Pizza delivery guy 80c because he kept calling me "sir". I could actually hear him sighing as he left.

I'm sorry Ahmed but you tried too hard.

I'm glad it isn't like that here in Australia. I only tip people who give me excellent service, and i choose the amount i tip. If anyone asks for a tip, that is a sure fire way not to receive anything from me at all. I don't see how anyone can expect tips from everyone even when they are already being paid for the job they are doing. Put some extra effort in and you will be rewarded.

I personally believe if someone's done an excellent job and gone above the call of duty, not just an average job that they should be doing anyway, they deserve a tip. You shouldn't be expected to give a tip, it should be treated as an added bonus.

i just found out last month that its normal to tip your mailperson. I had no idea! Supposedly the majority of people stick money in their mailbox once a month as a tip. *baffled*

FYI if you pass through a state like Oregon where you don't pump your own gas. You're not supposed to tip the gas station attendants. People from california and washington always pass through and tip because they just assume they're supposed to. They usually get laughs. Not that its a bad thing, just unexpected.

I agree with everything Amanda said, the only people who should get tipped are those that make below minimum wage and as far as I can tell in the U.S. that's only waiters/waitresses. Cab drivers should be lucky if I round up to the nearest dollar in my opinion, same goes for haircuts.

Every time I drive through New Jersey, I have to tip the fuckin' gas station attendants. If it served any benefit at all I wouldn't mind, but all full service gas stations do is make you wait in line for-fuckin-ever.

From the opposite point of view, I can definitely think of some situations were I felt like I was owed a tip even though I was getting paid an hourly wage.

Back when I used to work for PetSmart, we'd have a lady come in about every month to pick up dog food for the kennel/breeding operation she had going on. I don't remember what breed they were, but she sold the pups for stupid amounts of money. Long story short: bitch was loaded.

Anyway, she'd come once a month, and buy ~50 40 pounds bags of dog food that we'd haul from the back of the store into her Denali. Not once did she tip, but to make things worse, she'd also ask for a discount. Ugh.

So I definitely think there are some situations where a tip is often deserved, but like others have said, only when people go above and beyond their job description.

Where I'm at, waitresses get some miserable pay for their work, so if you don't tip, they will die in hunger. It's way bellow the minimum, and it's unwritten common knowledge you gotta tip for the service. Now, how much, depends on their service. Usually 10 - 15% of the bill.

I usually tip gas station guys, don't know why myself. I just feel bad when they look at you expecting it (they offer to wash your windshields and check oil while you wait) :)

I tipped a hairdresser but I felt wierd. Always tipping for the pizza delivery or any other kind of delivery.

They get paid at least minimum wage - it's not like wait staff that makes $2.25 an hour.

Wait staff gets at least minimum wage + tips here in MN and multiple other states. They get at least $8.55/hr plus tips in the state of Washington, $8.40+ in Oregon, $8.00+ in California.

Yeah, you've gotta tip your waiter.
Most people I know in the business only get $2-3/hr + tips.
However, here it's more like 20-25% of the bill.

I never EVER tipped my mail person. I don't think I ever would, even if it DID become the norm.

I lived in Olympia Washington most my life. I'd go to Oregon quite often for shows and stuff. It always freaked me out that I couldn't pump my own gas. I hated it. And, yea, I always tipped.

They changed the minimum wage laws in Washington a few years ago. Anyone working for tips make $2.50(ish) an hour.

Maybe it's $3.50, but it's well below minimum wage.

NYC is bad when it comes to tipping... ended up once tipping my hotel receptionist for $10 accidentially but that guy at least got me the hotel town car to drive me around town and they had to handle me the whole week mostly drunk.

Another hilarious story was when the cab driver brought me back to the airport. I think that a trip is like $45 fixed and the dude was seriously looking at me with an OMG face after I gave him $50 and told him its good. He prolly expected more from a tourist. The dude was on the fucking phone all the time!

About these dudes in the washrooms, lol ya they are mostly black. Why? No idea. But hey when they hook me up with gums and shit like that I do tip them. But nah, not for handing me a paper towel, lol.

Agree with tipping waitresses and bartenders. Waitresses live from your tips and bartenders will eventually get you drunk for cheaper if you tip them well.

I only tip when someone has gone over and beyond what they are paid to do. If they have given me bad service, they can dream on.

Do you have a source that you could link for that information? That U.S. Department of Labor list linked above was updated in January. Every online source that I can find says Washington state law does not allow a tip credit.

The Washington State Department of Labor & Industries website says.....

Can a business count workers' tips when making sure they get at least minimum wage?

No. Businesses may not use tips as credit toward minimum wages owed to a worker.

I always tip well when I receive service in a restaurant, but tip jars at the counter of fast food places and grocery stores is really annoying. I tip my mail carrier with a gift at Christmas time. When a repair person visits my house to fix the heater I tip the repairman, and I tipped the manual laborers who worked on a construction project $10 each.

The washroom attendants seem to exist to sit there and wait for tips. I wish they weren't there, and would rather do my business without having to say hello and tip.

If the maid does a shitty job during my stay at a hotel, I usually leave a shit in the bowl when I leave.
