Good thing this guy wasn't black...

He looks like the President of la Hermandad. He needs C4 up his ass too.

Schizophrenics are a real problem in society, They are allowed to run around, do crazy things, harass people all of the time and never have any accountability.

Saw one throw a jar at a grocery clerk in Riverside the other day. The next day she still gets to wander around saying and doing whatever she wants.

Yet - the police, their job is to use minimal required force - or one level of force above what is delivered to them. Clearly these guys deserve no mercy.

What would have happened if that jar hit the clerk and she had brain damage? Nothing to the Schizophrenic. So there is an underlying problem that exists - what do you do with these people?

His Dad is the biggest "After-The-Fact-And-Now-I-Care-Jerk". Let his kid wander around as a major nuisance. Knowing that this is the type of stuff that happens. Just not usually from Cops - usually from Gang memebrs or other deviants.

Am I the only one who thinks you should get your ass beat for resisting arrest? Not to mention his dad suddenly gives a shit, after his homeless son gets killed?

I'm normally the first to jump on the "fuck the police" bandwagon, but after watching the video, I can't find myself giving a shit about this one.

100% agree

I don't know any background on the story, all I did was watch the video, but there is a good chance his son was homeless by choice. Who knows how many times he tried to intervene and get him into hospitals etc before this happened. It did say he was offered $800k to make it go away and refused so it doesn't sound like he's caring after the fact for financial reasons.

As far as resisting arrest, I didn't see that either. He was being difficult at the beginning for sure, but to say that he was continuing to resist with 700lbs of police on his back is a bit of a stretch don't you think? How exactly does one put their hands behind their back when 5 cops are sitting on you and kicking you?

Clearly the cops went too far.

As far as the Father goes - he is an ex-cop himself and would know that the $800K was a small sum compared to the millions that would come from a trial.

Maybe, the Dad did interventions and maybe not. As far as homeless by choice, yes he was. But what capacity does a Schizophrenic have to make that choice and in-turn become an unaccountable burden to society? I am not saying he deserved what he got. But allowing Schizophrenics to roam the streets without accountability is stupid. Asking them if they want a home or not is also a waste of time.

I have seen countless times in life where everyone that is around a person that is falling apart is just tired of that person etc and in the end they all step up when something serious happens. It's so easy to step up when there is nothing to be done. Few are ever truly willing to seriously inconvenience themselves for others.

If his son is mentally ill, then he can be admitted to a mental hospital against his will. It's no longer the sons choice. Being that his father is a retired sheriff, you'd think he'd know that.

The cop has him on the ground for a good couple of minutes trying to get his arms behind his back before other officers arrive. There are only so many times you can shout "put your hands behind your back" at the guy, before you'd expect him to be beaten and/or tazed till he complies. When the other cops arrive, they see two officers struggling to detain the guy, so they jump in to help. The guy continues to struggle, so he gets tazed.

Short of getting violent, the guy is about as uncooperative as they get.

Until he is released with medication and stops taking it. I did time with guys that seemed perfectly normal until they needed money and sold their antipsychotic medication.

The first cop clearly threatens him unprovoked and says "See this fist, it's gonna fuck you up" before the incident even happened. The guy never physically resisted, the most they should have done was tazed him and cuffed him.

Sadly I had never watched the video and prejudged the situation from media reports and commentary.

I would not be surprised if the cops are found innocent. The guy was totally uncooperative, every yell and scream was met with contrary action. He would yell, say alright man, then yell and then say ok then sorry I will, then yell etc - typical BS I have encountered with crazy people.

They all know to yell and scream and yet fight you every step of the way. They never had him under control. Why you ask? Because they are subduing a suspect while making every attempt not to swap bodily fluids, get bitten, scratched etc.

Have you ever had to take someone down and at the same time not get scratched, bitten, spit on, etc - especially a smelly dirty homeless person? It's nasty work, you do everything you can to make certain they do not infect you with some disease.

The guy did not deserve to get beaten beyond recognition. He did not deserve to die. But he played the "tough guy" against the cops and lost. Maybe because he's schizo - but still, you do not enter that realm without taking risk. Especially in The OC where you know its not safe and the public does not want you

and what are we supposed to do with them when they decide they do not want to take their meds? Let them do whatever they want and give them a free pass? That's BS.

Not all the cops are bad.
Americans dont understand what its like to live without cops. When you cant call for help. Yeah its not perfect, but I sure as heck dont want to raise my kids elsewhere.

I saw the first minute of the video and already I'm shaking my head in disbelief. I've decided not to watch any more of it.

The way they used they just whipped out the batons and went crazy on him was totally unnecessary. The sad thing is that most cops would have done exactly the same (going nuts with the batons).

Found innocent? Because when you don't conform to highschool nerds with bad attitudes and weapons you should obviously be beaten to death.

Oh what's that you say? They are worried about getting bitten or scratched or hurt by the person they're arresting? Then maybe the fucking idiots shouldn't have taken a career in law enforcement. But they did, because 90% of them are power hungry maniacs.

This was big news several months back. Two CONSERVATIVE radio hosts, John and Ken on KFI AM 640 here in Los Angeles covered this extensively.

Ramos was heard saying to Thomas, while lifting his hands to his face while putting on his gloves, "See these fists? These are the fists that are about to fuck you up."

Those two cops are giant pussies. I won't watch the video, because I heard the audio numerous times. It crushed me when I heard Kelly Thomas yelling "Daddy! Daddy!" as he was being beaten to death.

What's the point of punishing people that are legally mentally ill? Do you think they are crazy by choice? If they do stupid shit they get arrested and admitted to the mental institution again until the doctor decides that they're no longer a threat to society.

As someone who has been tackled to the ground by cops, I would just like to get this answered: If a cop is on top of you and sitting on you, telling you to put your hands behind your back.. how are you physically able to do so?
