I thought about refunding, but I'm not going to.
Some people really need to relax.
Like seriously as much as I don't think Dennis should be speaking at ASW anymore it doesn't mean everyone should start hating on Shawn. He puts a shit ton of time and effort into the show so we have a place to get together and improve our business relationships and all everyone can do is bash him?
Seriously take a step back for once, grow some balls of your own and stop jumping on the hate train that everyone seems to follow on this forum.
If you have a problem with him speaking either attend for your own entertainment (like I will) or don't attend, it's pretty simple.
Let me know your real name and registration number, and I'll refund 1/2 the cost of that Platinum pass anyway, since you're displeased with that session, and you'll still have the pass.

I just feel like allowing someone like Dennis to have a platform at events like this feeds into "this is all bullshit" mentality that so many are jaded with.
I think it's instructive to shine a light on the wrong ways to do things, as well as the right ways.
It's not like we'll be highlighting the things Dennis has admitted to doing as best practices.
I guess, but it's not like there is going to be a disclaimer when he speaks that says "don't be a moron like this guy", right? There are still alot of people out there that will take what he says as "truth" because they don't know what is going on.
There are checks and balances in place with the moderator and his fellow panelists, including Alex Schultz from Facebook, who will certainly not endorse the practices.
When you say "practices" do you mean the stuff he "outed" on techcrunch, or that he's built his entire platform around being a successful FB advertiser when not a word of it is true? I just want to be clear, because it's difficult to know what you're addressing with ambiguous wording like "endorse the practices."

I don't think anyone here has an issue with his methodologies for running profitable FB campaigns. It's that he apparently never has. He scammed a lot of people (through shady business dealings, not talking about FB ads), leveraged his own status by misleading those who already had a platform into promoting him, and then attempted to throw an entire industry under a bus by "outing" scammy ads on FB.
So the outrage that you're witnessing for continuing to have him speak is because continuing to do so after being made aware of what a shady mofo the guy is makes you seem like you're endorsing his business practices.
To Bryn, for my part, it has nothing to do with hopping on some metaphorical hate train. And I'm not blindly bashing Shawn. I've just never been involved in an industry where someone who does business like Dennis Yu wasn't immediately ostracized.
PS - any talk of violence is just fucking stupid. We're basement dwelling geeks for cryin out loud.
