Iowa Caucuses

I don't understand the whining about RP being 3rd. He is only 3% away from Romney and Santorum.

Why would anyone would vote Obama over Romney, wtf....Romney may be a dick bag but he knows economics and has the best chance to actually take us out of the recession next to RP.

But then again I don't understand how someone can be a liberal ether.

3rd place means Paul is done. No fund raising or media or credibility bump.

You're going to see a lot of enthusiasm leave his campaign tomorrow unless they get some surprise results in.

I disagree. Two things - first, most of RP's money comes from diehard supporters that believe in his message getting out and don't really expect him to be President. It's not like corporate money will be drying up because there never was any. Second, Only RP, Romney and Huntsman will be contesting in New Hampshire so it will be more difficult for the media to ignore him. Although Romney will no doubt win NH, Paul will probably come in 2nd forcing the media to cover him going into SC.

I don't expect RP's money to dry up anytime soon.

Lesson I've learned in the last 6 years: Ron Paul is not done until he says he's done.

Agree with this. In 2008 John McCain was only at 13% and become the republican frontrunner.

RP was only at 12%.

Iowa means relatively nothing other than to start trimming the fat (removing bachman, cain, roemer, and the other no names)

I don't understand how Santorum won? If it's true he doesn't have a lot of money, how the fuck could he get the exposure he needs to pull off such a significant number? I could have believed Perry or Newt, but Santorum??? Fucking shit sounds rigged.

Rick Santorum thrives in Iowa on evangelical support | World news | guardian.co.uk

Even if Santorum was to achieve third place or higher on Tuesday, he would struggle to go further. He has little funding and almost no organisation in the next contests...

He has run his campaign on a shoestring and focused it almost entirely on Iowa. The meeting at the Buffalo Wild Wings Grill was his 360th since he began his campaign.

A lot of you are forgetting that a little over half of states are caucuses like Iowa. Even if Paul doesn't win the popular vote, due to organization knowing what to do, he can still win the most delegates and be in charge at the RNC.

Iowa just proved one thing - this race is between Romney and Paul. Santorum will get owned by the media soon, and has no organization. Pat Robertson and Huckabee won Iowa for god sake

Iowa caucuses 2008 – Mike Huckabee (34%), Mitt Romney (25%), Fred Thompson (13%), John McCain (13%), Ron Paul (10%), Rudy Giuliani (4%), and Duncan Hunter (1%)

John McCain was 4th but he was the presidential candidate right?

I just noticed that Business Insider updated their article late last night...

Business Insider said:
UPDATE: 1:40 a.m.

Sources close to the Paul campaign indicated Tuesday that they were happy with their delegate count. Although we couldn't get specific numbers, a source told Business Insider that Paul nailed down the delegates in all of Iowa's smaller counties, and made a strong showing in several larger ones.

The same way Santorum put all of his eggs in the Iowa basket, Huntsman put all of his eggs in the NH basket.

Don't expect Congressman Paul to do as well as you guys think.

didn't read whole thread, so someone may have said it:

this may be the best outcome for paul. it seems fishy that these two jabrones tied, because it pushes ron out of the story. but thats great for paul. whoever wins iowa gets hammered by the media as everyone wants to know: who are these creeps? paul has benefited by the fact that no one is really a fan of any of these other candidates. the voters are just bouncing around and around. as long as they keep bouncing, ron paul will gain momentum and stay out of the crosshairs a little bit. frontrunner is a curse at this point.

The media pumped up Santorum right before the caucus and no one was able to expose that he:

1. Raised debt ceiling 5 times
2. Voted for no child left behind
3. Voted for foreign aid (including china)
4. Supported pro-abortion and pro-obamacare Arlen Specter
5. Lost his last election by > 20% in PA
6. Voted for medicare part D
7. CREWs most corrupt member of congress in 06
8. Voted for tons of pork

Rick is finished after Iowa.

It's between Ron & Romney now.

I was actually thinking along these lines this morning. Once the professional muckrakers get out the dirt on him, lets see how he fairs.

7. CREWs most corrupt member of congress in 06

I actually know nothing of Santorum. But I did just read the CREWS (amazing how many Republicans they indict over Democrats) 2006 Santorum report. I see nothing here that cannot be attributed to every politician, even the great Obama himself. They want to pick on where his kids go to school, the fact that companies donate to his PAC and he introduces bills that benefit their industry - what is that..... correlation does not equal causation that is touted around here? There is no list showing they only gave him money, nor is there anything about how it was given - at a dinner, meeting or where? Even if he did give more money, if a politician is handling a bill that affects your company, you go to more of their dinners in order to talk to them - guess what - dinner is $1,000+ per plate and that gets counted as a donation. Even if it is money for access, the same case could be made for every politician, news flash, that's how the place operates.

Santorum is likely a temporary flash in the pan, I have no idea really, but the most corrupt politician crap - reminds me of The Fountainhead where self important sounding groups drive public opinion.
