popeye: Hypothetically speaking, and don't refute it by saying "it's never gonna happen" because we're talking hypothetically here, so like quantum physics, it could happen... So let's play pretend.
It's 2012.
Obama's pulled the country out of debt, managed to pull off even 1/3 of all he's promising, and stops the futile quagmire that's going on in the Middle East. The world loves North America again.
However, the US is still no longer the superpower it once was as China and India have caught up and surpassed in industrial capacity and total economy.
So whilst things aren't as great as they were 10 years ago, they're certainly better than now.
There's enough food, welfare takes care of the poor, and education is available at a base level to all who want it. As such, education rates are higher than they've been since the 80s, and crime is down to rates not seen in decades.
All this has been managed with only raising taxes on the top 5% of earners... Of which we can assume you're a part of because you're always carrying on about it.
What is your response to a society that is demonstrably better, and an America that has regained its place in the world, even though yourself are marginally worse off financially (even though it's easily argued that it's not really enough to affect your lifestyle in a demonstrable way)?
