The USSA just keeps getting worse...

I actually agree with this. I cant stand when ads scream at you. The networks even allow it. Lots of ads are 2 or 3 db higher. That is double the volume.

And that video says 6 to 10 db. I am not so sure about that.

Personally balanced audio levels would be great on all sources but no laws needed for that I feel.

Lots of advertising is regulated. Has been for years.

Its not congress' job to interfere. I get annoyed by ads on websites, and really annoyed by musical ads on websites when I have 100 tabs open and can't find the right one, but I sure as hell don't think congress should interfere.

Yeah, pretty much. They regulating EVERYTHING now a days. No more free market. No more free anything really.

I'm certainly not going to miss the loud ads, but like others have mentioned, it's not Congress' job to be intervening in this fashion.

This is definitely welcomed from me and my wife.. I cannot fucking STAND having to turn the TV down immediately after a show we're watching stops for a commercial break; our baby is sleeping and then gets woken up by the increase in volume. Seriously, I have my TV set at a certain volume, I want it to stay there.

Oh thank you kind overlord government for using your excessive power for something actually good.

cmon guys. "annoying" is an opinion and if you let the government regulate opinions it will never stop. One could say all your ads are annoying too.

Sorry but this is not an opinion. There's no one out there that enjoys being blasted by TV commercials; it's an entirely self-serving issue from the advertisement companies.

Ideally the TV companies would restrict advertisers from boosting volume, but they aren't.

I find car commercials annoying. Ergo, Congress should regulate car commercials.

I find product placements in my favorite shows annoying. Ergo, Congress should regulate product placements in my favorite shows.

I find Google ads above the fold annoying. Ergo, Congress should regulate Google ads above the fold.

lol voters.

This is merely an extension of the so called "loudness war" which has been raging ever since a particular piece of equipment was to be found in recording studios (Waves L2).

Notice how over the last ten years music itself has become progressively louder?

This should be regulated as well.

Instead of having the government regulate this, someone could create a product that fixes the problem and then makes bank selling it.

Wickedfire should be regulated also.
Too many butthurt fags complaining here.

say that when your kid wakes up from matthew lesko's 5-times-louder-than-your-set-volume commercial comes on. i'm sure you'll have chuckles over it.

No, it is an opinion.

You don't like loud ads. They wouldn't be loud if it didn't boost response.

If you let everyone on Facebook vote whether or not to keep the ads, they'd get removed. MOST people don't like ads. Doesn't matter, some people respond to them.

It's B.S. regulation and the government sticking it's nose in places it doesn't have any business in.

I find the presence of the word "fags" on my monitor annoying. Ergo, Congress should regulate the use of the "fags."

See where I'm going with this? Annoyance is subjective. Something that is mildly irritating to one person may send another into a rage. We should not be so quick to implore our voter-elected slavemasters to strip away another person's ability to choose.

There's a massive difference between removing ads all together, and changing a certain aspect of how they operate.

Trust me, I'm all for small government and less government; but the issue at hand here is a blatant abuse of technology imo. Maybe I'm a lot more affected by it than others since I have a kid that takes naps when we're watching TV sometimes; but I don't think that letting the government control this tiny (yet quite irritating) issue warrants a fear that the government is going to start controlling every other aspect of our lives.

The one HUGE thing that you guys are missing in all your comparisons is the nature of broadcast TV.

Broadcast TV being regulated by the government is nothing new - the restrictions on these ads are just a manifestation of that power.

So any comparison to all the ads on websites or anywhere else the government doesn't regulate content already is useless. The government gives extensive rules to anyone that wants to make a show on broadcast TV, why is it so ridiculous they would regulate the advertisements?

A more apt comparison would be with billboard ads - which already have tons of regulations placed on them to avoid being "annoying".
