It's interesting how the cop won't answer the question at the end. That's a point kingofsp and I were trying to make in another thread.

The only reason why these people have any "authority" (other than the assertion of violence for non-compliance) is that people believe they do.

And people believe they do because other people believe they do. It's called herd signalling. We move when the other cows move, and they are moving because some other cow moved.

We're all moving and yet no one really knows why. Just because we saw other people moving. It's probably some evolutionary bias that helped keep the tribe together and alive.

And that's what belief in the state is like. You do it because your friends do it. Because your parents do it. Because it's woven into our media, education, history, symbols and entertainment.

Props to any cop who doesn't rage on these guys. Some of these videos are kind of cool but these guys just seem like shitheads.

I get it, you have rights and you don't want cops to overstep their boundaries.. but like.... roll down your fucking window more than an inch, dumbass.

roll down your fucking window more than an inch, dumbass.
Why? So the fuckers can claim that they smell pot or alcohol and then use that as
probable cause for an illegal search? You only have to roll the window down enough so
that you can fit your papers through (license, registration, etc...).

How did the cop get his authority?

Hired by somebody who was hired by somebody who was hired by somebody who was elected? That's a good question, where do cops get their authority from? I guess you covered that for the most part in your previous post, they get it from the people. The herd of sheeple who roll their windows down more than 1 inch. (jk)

If the police officer's goal was to make that up out of thin air, would a window that's rolled down 1 inch verses a window that's completely rolled down really make a difference?

"Your Honor.. My car did NOT smell like weed smoke and the officer is lying.. My window was only rolled down 1 inch, how could he have possibly smelled smoke or alcohol?"

I'm obviously missing the point you're making.

If you roll the window down only an inch and keep all the other windows up
(and no, you don't have to roll any other windows down if they tell you to)
then there's no draft created to push any scent or smoke out of the drivers slightly
opened window.

Okay, but going by the assumption that you're NOT smoking weed in your car, and the officer is just fabricating that to fuck you over for no reason/cos he didn't like your attitude/cos he's powertripping/whatever motivation he would have to do so... So it's his word against yours, he says he smelled smoke, there was no smoke.. You're in court, do you think that it really matters how far down your window was rolled? That's what I was trying to say.

On the other hand, if you ARE smoking weed in your car or you reek like booze, I can see why you would only want to roll the window down an inch.

If you're not drinking or smoking while driving your car, though, I really don't see what you stand to gain by only rolling your window down an inch like the guys in the video who (I'll assume) weren't drunk or stoned.

I know most people just want to work and have a family. But there's that 1 percent thats violent.

Its human nature. You cant have a perfect system unless you have a perfect human.

Get rid of jealousy first. Now I'm all for a free society; but I just dont see it.

just think if these clowns put as much effort into starting a business instead of driving around thinking up reasons for cops to pull them over and video tape it.

Not sure about your science. If I fart under the covers my wife *always* smells it no matter how tight the blankets.

If you can document that you didn't roll your window down far enough and didn't create
a draft to push it out of the opened window (video camera) then it will greatly help your
case. That's why cops don't like you video taping them... so you can't use it against them.

Sounds like the "if you have nothing to hide then you have nothing to worry about" logic.

Bottom line is that the police are not your pals or buddies. The more you converse
with and do whatever they tell you to do the longer your rope gets to hang yourself.

True story:

Last summer I was coming home from a bar and got stopped for a burned out headlight...
(Not swerving or driving like a drunk person)

I gladly opened my window all the way down and barked answers, like a good little sheep, at every question asked...

Cop: Where are you going?
Me: Home

Cop: What were you doing?
Me: Dropping some friends off.

Cop: Where did all of you go tonight?
Me: We went to [name of the bar]

Before I could speak another word:
(Totally changed tone)

I SMELL ALCOHOL ON YOUR BREATH... GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE!

So I started laughing and got out... about 15 minutes later and all the drunk tests he
could think of he says "Well, you're pretty alert for someone that's been drinking all night!"

My response:
I was the designated driver

I didn't have a single drop of alcohol that night... So he lied about smelling it.

Now would have rolling my window down only an inch stopped my sobriety test?
Maybe not... But the police are not your friends. They'll use anything and everything
against you to try to fuck you over to get your money and freedom from you.

No reason to make it easy for them...

This is a non-sequitur.

Also, no one mentioned a perfect society.

Is it a crime in the US to open someone's door without permission? If you damaged it, sure, but I think anyone can technically open someone's car door if they're in there. Could be considered harassment if you kept doing it, but otherwise...

That would be called assault...
